Best 2k Graphics Card

I plan on building a 2k gaming machine in the next couple months but every "best value 2k gpu" review is from last gen gpus. I plan on going nvidia because of it's features so im not interested in amd/ati. The monitor im getting has 144hz and i would like to get as close to that as i can in most games and in some AAA titles i would be fine with 80-90 fps averages (not Crisis lol). Cpu wont be a bottleneck as im getting a skylake i7 since i do heavy video editing and need the hyperthreading. Currently im looking into the 980ti but if thats overkill and I could go a step down to the 980 and be fine i am ok with saving a little money.

If your building it in the next couple months build around it, the new GPUs will be here in the next few months.

Coming from someone who owns a GTX970 and is using it right now, you need something more powerful than a 970 for sure.

 

Around 6 months ago the 970 was epic for 1440p but recently I have noticed a trend where it just cannot keep up and if it wasn't for G SYNC I'd be having a terrible experience.

 

GTA V - Less than 60FPS at High Preset

FO4 - Less than 60 fps at High Preset

ROTTR - Less than 50FPS at High Preset

The Division - Less than 45FPS at High Preset

Hitman - Less than 45FPS at High Preset *I was playing the BETA version so that might improve?

 

Games are really starting to bush the boundaries of the 970 now. Honestly I'd wait for Polaris/Pascal before buying anything.

There's nothing in question.  You said you want the best Nvidia card for 2k, and you know it's the 980ti.
