Hi guys, so i finally want to upgrade from my old Corsair 1400's and use my DT770's for gaming and skype use. However I really cannot decide between getting a ModMic or a Blue Yeti mic. I will be going to LAN parties so the mic would have to be good at blocking out background sound. I will also be creating Youtube videos so quality is also of high importance.

If you need any more information then please ask!

Thanks guys!

I just see one problem here. you have two very different mics that are both suited for the two very different situations that you plan to use them in. the blue yeti would be better for youtube videos but they mod mic would be better for lan parties. so which one do you see your self doing more lan parties or youtube content (if lan parties i would go with the mod mic if youtube content i would go with the blue yeti)

Very true! Because there is a LAN party later this month and the 1400's let in way too much noise, I may get the ModMic now and then potentially get a desktop mic just for Youtube further down the road.

If I had it to do again I'd probably have gotten a Blue Yeti, or even a Snowball. I find the ModMic's wire extremely ungainly, and my choices are either to leave it attached all the time (despite using it rarely), or remove it and go through the process of digging it out and running the wire as comfortably as I can every time. It's a bit of a pain either way, and sometimes I wish I had a more straightforward desk mic.

That said, LAN parties aren't really my scene. So if it's worth using there, so be it. I've never had any complaints about the sound quality or background noise, so it might be well-suited to that.

Oh really? I may end up getting both in the end due to them being suited to different environments. Another question i have is, would the Blue Yeti or the AT2020 be better?

I like the 2020 more than the yeti.

Hi, I'm a proud owner of the blue yeti microphone blackout edition, I got it on sale on my birthday for £70.00 and I'm am very happy with the purchase but with every thing it has it's negatives, the USB to Mini USB broke after two weeks of purchase with no strain put on it that I know about, so I bought a Amazon USB to Mini USB, I'm glad to say it hasn't broke yet,it has been 6 months .

positives about the Yeti?

it a great microphone for what I use it for and look's amazing with blackout edition and great quality for the cheap price I paid for it and it really well made. the accessories I use are a cheap pop filter, that has broken an that really it.

what  I use the  microphone for ?

I use talk to my friends on ts ,Steam and Skype and it perfect for them use and it post to be a really good microphone for YouTube.

what your opinion on ModMic?

I have never used the mod micro phone but I was going to buy one for my Xbox one, but then realized it waste of money for console I never use. So I suggest looking at reviews for the ModMic.

I have a modmic, I have issues with it I have a lot of static in the background. I have a friend with the yeti and it sounds great. Obviously it picks up room noise so its not great for lan parties but I don't rate the modmic, it has issues with some soundcards.

Well that is because your pc has static in it get a cheap usb soundcard you can put a mic into and the static will be gone.

Alas that isn't the case, the modmic works with a different card and different mics work with my current card. Its a compatibility between the modmic and the soundblaster cards, and it presumably other cards as well.

I tested 4.0 prototypes of the Modmic with several Creative cards without issue (dating back to the Audigy series up to the current ZxR) before the 4.0 release, there may be something else going on there, as there is no compatibility issue between the Modmic and Creative cards. Your mic boost should be set to 0, if you have that ramped up, turn it down.

Its too quiet even with the +20Dba boost it has now. Setting to 0Dba you can't hear it at all. Even modmic can't work it out and they have been trying and failing for a year now. I did actually replace my soundblaster Z and get one on a motherboard (Recon3Di) and it has the except same issue. I can't explain it and neither can the manufacturer but its a problem with 2 modmics (1.0 and a 4.0) and multiple soundblaster Z based cards.
