Gtx 980 worth it?

So price in my store are these:

GTX 970 Extreme Gigabyte = 500$

GTX 980 G1 Gigabyte = 650$

GTX 980Ti = 900$

Expensive I know  What would be the GPU for 1400p gaming and 144Hz refresh rate monitor combined with i5 - 6600k and 16GB of RAM?

Wait for Pascal and Polaris.

I'd search around some more.  Those are running like 650-670 now in the USA.

I don't think so. 980Ti will do well for 1440p and 144hz. (I own one lol)

If you don't need a video card now, then I would wait for the next generation of GPUs to arrive

Wait or save. You'll want 980TI or better to really push those kind of frames on 1440p.

Yeah, this is the same situation i'm in. I want a new, more powerful card (like a 980 Ti) but I dont know when the new cards are gonna come out and im not sure what the price to performance is gonna be.

Pure speculation, but I don't think the Pascal x70 card will be on par with the 980TI. I would expect it closer to a 980. The new x80 will likely be closer to the 980TI.

well at least hoping that the price will drop...

and even the 980 would serve me very well in 1440p, cus now 980ti is way to expensive in my store..

Oh yeah, definitely. If you can hold out, go for it. Those prices are insane lol. You can almost get 980TI SLI for the price of one.

580gtx or 970 for that playstile is more than enough. Chech for a cheap 780

Not necessarily, but you could be able to get more performance for a similar price. Depends on how soon you need the card. Pascal/Polaris could take months to arrive, and possibly longer for Croatia.

 

I will say that if you want to game at 1440p at 60–144 FPS, you're going to want the fastest card you can afford.

Man I can take 2 normal gtx 970 G1 from gigabyte for less money than one 980ti. think it's worth it?

Nah, I would wait for Pascal over 970 SLI. In my opinion you should only SLI top end cards.

but 970 sli is a lot of power i can take in my system haha and less money than 980ti...

i know sli can have upsides and downsides, but for games i want to play it's fine

Yeah but at 1440p you'll run into VRAM limitations.

also aware of that. that's why 980ti is only one nvidia's card that has more than 4gb of VRAM..

These prices are simply outrageous. I picked up a 980 ti FTW edition from Micro Center for $635 (note, this was not a special offer or sale). They are trying to get them out of stock for Pascal and just dropped their price. The real solution is to find a different store.
