Cat 6 cable with low speeds

DigitalDoofus
Go to solution Solved by DigitalDoofus,

Issue resolved (wifi cards fault) check the other posts if this is not what is causing your issues

I have recently installed a cat 6 Ethernet cable for my computer and I am getting internet speeds that are half as good form the ones I was getting with wireless the ping is almost 20 times as bad as it usually and I am not sure what to do to fix it i have updated the motherboard drivers which did nothing as well as switched ports on the router/modem (ISP provided)

Any help is appreciated.

i checked the manual for the router the lan ports are supposed to be rated for gigabit and not 2 megabit, there also seems to be a lot of tremble in the speeds over a speedtest.net test

Doesn´t matter really, most Router/Modem combos are just bad really. Not to mention ones provided by the ISP. Who is your ISP anyway?

Make sure that you have all the correct drivers for the Ethernet port on your motherboard

i may have found out why but im not too sure my router has 100 Mbps lan its the one above mine which has support for gigabit so i'm assuming the cable is too op for the router/modem i'm probably going to contact my isp and ask for an upgrade

the cable should not matter, there is some type of issue either from your ISP or on the motherboard its self. i had this problem and when i re-downloaded the newest drivers for my lan port it fixed it

ok I for a moment I though I had fixed it with an update to the driver on the correct revision that my motherboard is as my speedtests went back up to what they should be but after 5 minutes or so the speed has degraded back to what it normally is at this moment in time i'm confused as to what my issue could be

Okay I am pretty certain this is a driver issue after installing the driver for like the third time it was at normal speed for about 5 minutes and has no degraded back to the speed it was running previously :L I am unsure on what to do to fix this. Ok everytime I re install the driver it's giving me a repair installation so its starting to seem that im royally screwed

try restarting your router and modem too, and make sure you are downloading the correct one from the manufacturer.

It can actually be the cable. Got another cable you can try? Even something like Cat5/Cat5E? Just to rule out the possibility.

it could be but im getting fluctuations in the speeds which doesn't seem to be caused by the cable (plus it was £20 and brand new)

Doesn't matter. Shitty cables can cause that stuff sometimes. It happens. Try a different cable if you can, even Cat5 or Cat5E, just to rule it out as a possibility.

People always ignore layer 1 :P
