Tips for this video shoot and How do I improve this video?

megadarkwood

I am going to be filming a skate video for a friend that wants to get sponsored.

I have 2 cameras, one is a Canon Vixia HFR300 camcorder that does 1080p and the other one is a Point-And-Shoot that takes some pretty good 720p video.

I will be getting a monopod and I have a tripod..

What I am thinking is to have the point and shoot as a wide on the tripod and use the camcorder to get the close ups, is this a good idea?

If any of you have done a skate video please give me any tips! :D

Here is the video I took with my phone at 1080p, this was a practice shot to get some idea of angles and for the skater to get some practice also.

First change the video's name and get a tri-pod if you don't have one and edit out the wind noises

That was a test video like I said. All those things will be done, How do I edit out the wind noise?

If it's a skating video I think you should be doing the exact opposite of what you've suggested. Lose the tri/monopod and chase the subject with the camcorder. Always keep the lens as wide as possible, do not ever touch the zoom on the camera, and experiment with holding the camera close and far from the subject, and dynamically changing between the two by running closer or further. Get on your own board and ride along with him, shooting parallel etc. Think about angles, you don't have to adhere to any filmic rules, so try shooting upside down, diagonally, straight into the sun, etc. I'd forget about using the second camera/s as the footage simply wont pair up and it will end up doing more damage to the production than good. Think about long takes, using focus or defocus, crane shots, dolly shots, crabbing shots. All cool stuff to think about and you absolutely don't need any pro equipment to do it.

Protip, shoot at the highest framerate your camera can manage. If it means dropping the quality from 1080p to 720p but going from 30p to 60p, do it! I wouldn't drop below 720p, however.

I can do 60fps on 1080i

What should I get from that site? I was thinking something like a Opteka X-Grip, but they don't have anything like that

DO NOT SHOOT IN INTERLACED (1080i), 1080x60i = 1080x30p, however you'll get horrific interlacing artifacts when exporting the video if you're not careful enough. Always shoot progressive. Also, you don't need to be able to skate to just roll on a board, or your bike, or simply run to keep up with him. Challenges can be overcome, just get in there and do it, have fun.
