Why do parents get their Kids COD and GTA and stuff like this?

asim1999

Video games don't make children grow up to become killers.

Hillary Clinton is wrong on that one.

I grew up with Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, light gun games, bb guns and my dad let me fire guns that the family owned.

I never once had the yearning to shoot someone.  I guess you can say my parents raised me right.

In a way parents letting their children play video games, even inappropriate ones, to keep their kids physically safe.  Play ground and the streets are nothing like when I was a kid.  Even libraries aren't safe.  I went to a local library once and a sick old pervert was viewing pornographic materials and there wasn't anything the staff could do about it.  They didn't want to violate his 1st amendment.  SMH

Really my parents are fine with me playing games like GTA.

They are fine with me playing them as long as I don't do those stupid things. Some people online have no common sense

Yeh, my parents never let me, i understand why.

my parents are protective about that stuff in an interesting way my dad when im at his place he doesnt seem to care and we both know i can handle that stuff but im not allowed to get it for console i have to play pc since i have younger brothers and its a small appartment so it could expose them to that stuff and i totally respect that. while my mom will let me get the stuff she doesnt let me get cod things like that although im old enough to purchase them myself which i do. but she doesnt care that much so long as 1 she doesnt have to see it and 2. i dont show my brothers whom are much much younger than me. althogh what baffles me is that she lets my middle brother who is way under age technically cant even play T rated games play csgo all day. hes pretty much allowed to play whatever he wants. although they know his passwords they never use them. i have complete privacy yet im given free reign over what i consume in terms of content but that wasnt until recently hell skyrim i had to actually convince them to let me get for my 17th birthday... lol ironically i wound up not liking the game that much i still have barely touched it. im just not that much of a shooter person they never interested me much and gta ive never played a gta game in my life although i would love to try it

Well they judge based on an age rating alone.

What gets me is that BF3 is rated the same as Titanfall when Titanfall has pretty much no swearing and much less violence (boht are 16+)

I don't get why either. But even worse, I knew a kid that was like 7 and he watched fucking South Park and his parents were cool with it.

Parents, do your job. Would you let your kids watch porn? No? Then why are you letting them play and watch things that are 18+?

I grew up playing call of duty 1 and 2. I was around 10 years old and was playing with clans that were 18+ but I acted like one of them.

Its down to the individual. Most kids these days are arrogant idiots, in the UK anyway. The fact the kids get "violent" or shout

annoying and abusive things to others online is down to the parenting in other aspects, not specifically censorship.

When i I do eventually have kids, I think I'll be able to judge whether or not to allow my kids to play more

mature games.

Back in my day I used to play a game with my dad that involved surviving the longest in Nazi infested France. It was the original Call of Duty and I was like 13 (?).

Them parents need to control their kids and offer an education that is based on common sense, which all the kids on XBL seem to lack.

If the concern is violence, no kid has ever derived morals or lessons exclusively from media unless it was a serious mental problem or the neglectful parents let the tv be the only role-model, teacher, baby sitter, and companion. Just because a game is violent, doesn't exempt the parents or guardians of responsibility.

If you're just mad a squeakers on Xbox, I know its annoying, but its a simi free world and I'm sure at some point in some place you were just as annoying to someone . Just wreck, laugh, and move on.

honestly I think they should sell multiplayer only versions of cod, because it would be rated T, GTA I agree with, but cod, with the gore switch and no cursing anyway in multiplayer. Or ESRB should rate multiplayer and campaign seperate.

also Microsoft and call of duty should look at their reports.

All it does it just opens them to screen in the mic at multiplayer all of the time other than that Gore is an issue to understand on games so idk another everything else still have to be what the parent has to decide. But whenever I have kids I will make sure to know what the game is about. So just understand the game and make a firm decision.

IMO, censorship is useless in the sense that kid come to know about the mature stuff one way or the other.

And for violent games, everyone knows that they are 'games' and most of the stuff people do in games can't be done in real life.

I think it has a lot to do with if the parents feel the child is mentally ready for that game in other instances it is bad parenting.

I've played Black Ops when I was 10 but I got it when I got my Xbox 360S at the end of 2011 when I was 11 going on 12.

Okay let's be full honest here:

I'm twelve. I play GTA and CSGO and COD and all those other games. However I don't go around in online games always swearing and messing around like every other kid does. But, I do believe that maturity is a factor that's missing when children are playing those games, but all children are different... right?

There isn't a binary right or wrong way to do it. It's up to the parents to decide what they feel is right for their children.

In my opinion, the issue of age seems like a scapegoat for immaturity online. It's far too simple an answer. The overwhelming majority of the most malignant garbage I've ever heard or read online comes from posters/players/bloggers whose age I don't have any reason to question. It's often people with jobs and fully-formed political opinions, in fact.

I don't think actual children (not to be confused with those who just behave like children) are a significant portion of the real problem. And even if they are, it doesn't matter because the solution is the same regardless: If you don't like the way people behave when they have open voice chat in public games, opt out of open voice chat in public games. It's not exactly shocking that people sometimes behave that way when allowed to do so under anonymity.

They only do it because (not trying to offend ANYONE) they are not very savy and dont get it..

They dont understand and/or don't mind what their kids see or do..

So I don't want offend anyone here but it's kinda true... So yeah.
