depends on the Game. In GTA5 the CPU is very important.

Don't newer GPUs have newer architectures anyway?

Depends on how much newer CPU architecture, and what tasks you're looking at. For gaming, a newer/more powerful GPU will generally be a better investment. But you'd have to get more specific to get more specific and accurate answers.
