No. According to my research it's not and it's not listed on Newegg as a selling point either. You probably lack a 980M because those are usually VR ready.

System Specs

  • Gaming/work PC:
    • Processor: Intel Core i7 4790k  @ 4.5Ghz
    • Memory: 32GB RAM (Corsair Vengeance)
    • Graphics: ASUS GTX 980 Ti
    • Motherboard: Gigabyte Gaming 5 Z97
    • Storage: 3x 1TB Samsung SSDs (Not in RAID) & 1TB WD Black HDD
    • Case: H440 Designed By Razer

980M is minimum so you need about 40% more power

Try running steam's VR tool for a slightly more accurate guestimation, though even that is sort of iffy.

It doesn't work with laptops atm

It has it. Every laptop has it. It's to improve battery life.

nope it actually doesn't

g-sync can't operate when the main nvidia gpu turns on and off spontaneously so it's hard fixed on one at a time i can change it but if not it won't change by itself

ok this is weird

it says that my laptop is vr capable but not vr ready

what does that mean?

it also says that the average fidelity was at medium and there were no frames lower than 90 fps

Means low settings and only some games are playable in VR - low-demanding ones.

capable means that it will run VR games, but not at max settings or resolution.

VR ready means maxed out. basically a desktop 970 is recommended or a 980m in laptop form.

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

Laptop: MacBook Pro M1 512gb

Not sure about the Vive, but the Rift does not support mobile gpus that use Nvidia Optimus because it introduces too much latency.

I'll take that as the reason it didn't even start on my laptop(and not consider the gt130m as at fault).  Wanted to try the test for a laugh.

Not exactly. 970 is the minimum as well as the 980M to be able to run all games on low settings and low res
970M is going to run a small amount of low-demanding games in low res
980 Ti or Fury is needed for max settings

yeah sorryi meant to add that the 970/980m were recommended as a minimum for the best experience.
