New build no display

I've just finished my first build and it turns on but their is no display on the monitor, on my motherboard there is a red light near a pci port

Update: red light has gone, forgot sata from hdd to mobo

Remove the card completely and boot from the onboard graphics. Make sure it's posting to begin with.

What are the parts in the build?

Do the CPU / GPU / Case fans turn on?

Have you tried the mobo display output? With and without your graphics card installed.

I was looking at the picture that the OP posted and thinking "why are none of the SATA ports used?.. but then thiought that maybe there are more ports on the board that couldn't be seen in that pic?

My case fans are running, my gpu light turns on my setup is

mobo:ASROCK z97 killer

cpu i5-4690k

gpu gtx 970

That just removed the light but still no display

Ah ok I removed the gpu and it is posting, but now the red light is back

So, what are you trying to do? 

 

Are you just turning it on for the first time and trying to enter the BIOS?

 

Are you at the point where you are trying to install the OS?

Nevermind, that was gonna be my suggestion next, to remove the GPU and see if it posts then.

I turned it on for the first time just a few seconds ago, I'm trying to install the os. If it posts without my gpu then it means there is something wrong with it?

Check your manual to see what it means.

 

If it posts without your GPU, yes something is wrong, though it can be a range of things.

What PSU do you have?

what? of course it'll post without the GPU, he has the IGP .. he just has to plug the cable into the motherboard instead is all. I think OP is trying to go too fast personally, no offense meant OP... The system should really have been tested outside the case first to make sure things are working and that it posts, without the GPU.. then put everything in the case apart from the gpu again, again check to see if it posts, then proceed from there to set the BIOS or UEFI settings.... then install the OS, then install the GPU.

I know not everyone will agree here, but that's my method and it helps to rule out problematic things IMO, because if you know that the system works fine without the GPU and you have it all set up and benchmarked, then you can install the GPU and go from there .
