Budget Build + Peripherals?

What would be the best budget build for a person who wants to

  • play CS:GO at 120 FPS on medium-high settings
  • do "light" photo and video editing
  • plan to play demanding AAA games in the future
  • not break the bank

I tried to make a draft (keep in mind it's shitty) but I'd like that you people expand on that draft and maybe suggest some peripherals.

I'd like to keep the case the same however.

Edit: I need a monitor too, preferably 120Hz or 144Hz if the value is there.

Remove the CPU cooler as you probably wont be overclocking it. Though for $30, it is a good addition if you are worried about your temps / live in a hot enviroment.

No HDD? You could do well with a 1TB WD Blue + a 128GB Boot drive.

Please dont get a CX PSU.

I live in the middle east where it gets quite hot.

I suppose the storage could be adjusted as a 500GB SSD isn't the best value.

I thought the problems with the overheating of the PSU was solved?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure a 380 can't handle a constant 120 FPS at 1440p.

Thats what you think.

I have a 4690k at stock and a GTX 970, and I run 1080p at 250-300fps. I dont recommend you playing at 1440p though (Even with a 980Ti), because you are going to need all the fps you can get.

At which settings?

I plan to play AAA titles like the Witcher 3 at max settings in the future, I doubt I could play like that at 1440p.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, I'm surely not the person to benefit from Skylake or DDR4.

I play at some very weird settings, some maxed out and some lower (due to graphical advantages in competitive play). Though even when I max everything out my setup still handles it fine.

Christ, what are you doing? Why are you swapping out the R9 380 for a inferior GTX 960?

I wouldn't call it "arguing" per se if you can show evidence to back up your opinion. I prefer the word "debate".

OP, I would suggest this as a change to your storage.

I would suggest a R9 380 over a GTX 960 because its performance is just better. You can see from benchmarks here:

Heaven

fc4

metro

shadow

tomb

The only game that the GTX 960 edged out the 380 was in GTA V, which can be seen here:

gta

Looking at raw performance, the R9 380 seems to be superior in most cases. Also, on pcpartpicker, it is also cheaper than the GTX 960.

However, the 380 does has it cons. Many say that the AMD series are infact more power hungry than the Nvidia series, and here is proof of it:

power

For a budget build like this one, one shouldn't be overly concerned with the power consumption. Your PSU will be able to handle both graphics cards with ease. For a budget build, what you should be looking out for is bang for your buck, and the R9 380 certainly fulfils that condition.

DDR4 isn´t going to be effecting your game performance any time soon. Can you give me a budget? You haven´t clearly listed one.
