Windows Activation

K im making a new post where I actually say the problem I have right now... Not this mess xD

Hello,

I upgraded my old PC yesterday, I bought the parts and I put my old RAM, SSD, and HDD in the new sytem. Everything worked out fine, and Windows was up and running right away. But I noticed a lot of apps were acting weird and Windows itself wasn't behaving normally. I thought it had something to do with the drivers that were already installed for the older components, so I formatted the drive and clean-installed Windows. Before that, Windows was activated (or I hadn't got the activation message yet, idk). But after I formatted the drive Windows wasn't activated anymore and it won't except my key from the old PC. I saw on the Microsoft forum a post with someone with this issue and an MVP said you should do this:

Click Start, type: CMD

Right click CMD

Click Run as adminstrator

At the command prompt, type the following commands:

slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (allows you to replace the current product key with the specified)

xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx - represents your product key

Hit Enter on your keyboard

Exit the command prompt

Restart your computer

Give it a few days

I'm a little bothered by the "give it a few days" part. Since I don't want to wait a few days, install a buch of stuff only to hear I actually need to clean install Windows again or smthing...

But I have done what he said.

Was this the right thing to do? Or should I contact Microsoft Support and talk to someone? Or is there an easier way? (Windows Support Service sucks A)

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

ReThorb_

Forgot to mention smth: The apps that I have tried to install now (except the drivers) wont install properly... like Java for example. I assume this is just with the fact that I haven't got the time yet to install all the drivers and that Windows needs to be updated aswell.

Okay what? I just rebooted for different reasons, and now Windows is activated... Fine then. I'm now downloading Chrome (takes a while with my internet) i'll edit this reply if she works.

EDIT: NOPE. After installing I get; "Oops, Chrome has frozen. Reboot now?"

EDIT: NVM chrome works.

EDIT: Tried to install Minecraft.. Failed. Fatal error in Runtime Environment.

EDIT: Chrome only works sometimes.. But breaks when I try to do anything..

It doesn't hurt to stick with this thread.

Just put and "UPDATE" on what is going on on your very first post.

Which Operating System are you using (i.e. Windows 8.1, or 10)?

The Windows Product Key is tied to your motherboard.

For Windows 10, the key it NOT stored on your computer, but on the Microsoft servers.

When you do a reinstall, once the computer gets a internet connection, it will "call home" to the servers and check for a match in the database. If the information matches, it will reactivate Windows 10 automatically.
