So i see a lot of suggestions to buy graphics cards used. I have been looking at listings on both Ebay and Craigslist. It seems to me that people WAAAAY over value their used cards.

For example used 7950s range from $140 to over $200 on ebay. You can get a brand new R9 380 that was not used for bitcoin mining for $150.

EBAY

don't get me started on craigslist.

I know that Linus and Luke got good deals on scrapyard wars, but I think that in order to do that you have to spend 2 days on the phone low balling people.

Maybe Canada is easier. For now I don't see the hassle being worth the savings.

Canada at least where I am is much better than ebay and USA craigslist for used stuff

280xs as low as $70 USD

Also two days low balling is how you get fair prices on used stuff.

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

There are many, many people who overvalue their graphics cards.

Ebay works well for certain cards and at certain times. Some cards seem to be consistently overvalued and I simply do not pay attention to those cards, There are some pretty good deals to be had in some cases however. In the last 8 months off of EBAY I had noticed what I consider a sweet spot in the GTX760, I've picked up two GTX760's for between 100 and 110 USD for my second PC and for a friend's PC, I would consider them to be a pretty good deal, they offer similar performance to a GTX950 for 50 USD less.

I've been watching cragslist pretty hard for the last 4-5 months and have seen anywhere from a GTX680 for 350 USD(absurd) to GTX960's for 190 USD(silly, used at new price) to decent value GTX760's for 100ish USD to crazy deals(that I jumped on IMMEDIATELY, because they disappear)

4 months ago I found a Titan X for 450 USD(which I got)

2 weeks ago I found a GTX980 for 275 USD(which I got)

The great deals don't stick around, I spend 5 minutes everyday after work looking at craigslist for any deals, I search for "gtx" to cover all Nvidia cards.

I'm not personally very knowledgeable about AMD's lineup and Bitcoin mining is always a concern so I don't usually check for AMD cards but when I do I simply search "radeon"

You can get a gtx 950 for $130. I've even seen them as low as $120. Not sure that the $10 - $20 savings is worth buying used.

Now a Titanx for $450 is a steal! But you probably have to jump in the car and call on the way as soon as you see that.

I can agree that at 100 bucks, 30 bucks saved for a slightly older card isn't amazing but at that price it's 30% less for the same performance. At the time I got them, being this past summer(wow... that long ago?), the gtx950's were not released yet.
