SFF Family build

neebuilda

So with me going to Uni next year my family will need a PC to use when I take mine away with me. My parents want it to be a small from factor build, ideally using a node 202. The build can use my old R7 260x and monitor, and I have plenty windows installs lying around.

My current plan would be this,

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-6300 3.8GHz Dual-Core Processor  (£105.00 @ Amazon UK)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! SHADOW ROCK LP 51.4 CFM CPU Cooler  (£29.99 @ Novatech)
Motherboard: ASRock H170M-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard  (£87.59 @ More Computers)

Storage: Sandisk Ultra II 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (£107.00 @ Amazon UK)

add a silverstone or be quiet sfx psu and it will be an pretty overkill family-pc.

If one does not fail at times, then one has not challenged himself.

The node comes with a fractal sfx psu. It will be mainly used for web browsing and homework etc., but with a spare GPU lying around why not chuck it in. It should let my brother play the occasional game.

The Shadow Rock LP is too tall for the case. Stick with the Intel stock cooler that comes with the cpu or consider something like the Noctua NH-L9i.

I would go with the most inexpensive, decent ssd. Something like Crucial BX200 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive. Performance differences will not be noticed by the users.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Forgot to check clearances, thanks for the warning. Was looking for something as quiet as possible so will probably go with the noctua over stock.

If u wanna save some money, go with an sg13 or sg08.
use a standard atx psu. also supports 3.5hdds. its not much bigger. just different shaped.

something like this :http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/d8m2t6

the included AP14 fan makes the stock intel cooler work like a charm

the sg13 and sg05 are smaller but if ur new to SFF, stick with the sg08, has better GPU support too.

Just go with the airpenetrator 14 on the sg08. That darn fan pushes so much air u dont need a aftermarket cooler.
Better spend the savings into a quieter PSU, quiter HDD or increasing SSD capacity.
Oh all the intakes are filtered too, so ur covered there.
