Budget & Location

I live in the Netherlands. My budget is ~1500EUR (~1640USD).

I am going to build this pc myself. The budget is including OS, but exluding monitors/mouse/keyboard/etc.

Aim

The pc will be used and upgraded for at least the next 10 years. I use it for programming, hosting servers, and gaming. I play both new games like gta 5 and old games like CS:GO.

Monitors

I am running 2 monitors. 1 as main (gaming) monitor and 1 second monitor for social media etc.

They are both 1080p and I am not planning to upgrade the next few years. If I am going to 4k I will buy a new GPU as well.

Peripherals

I don't need any peripherals. I need Windows 10 Home.

Why are you upgrading?

My pc is a prebuild HP which runs CS:GO at 30FPS.

Does that say enough?

Overclocking

I am not going to overclock as soon as I get the pc. If my pc doesn't perform well enough anymore I will start overclocking.

My build

The last few days I spend a lot of time making this build.

Type|Item|Price
:----|:----|:----

**CPU** | [Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80662i76700k) | €360.83 @ Mindfactory

I chose this because I have the budget for it, and hyperthreading is so nice when hosting servers & gaming at the same time.
**CPU Cooler** | [Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2) | €36.44 @ Amazon Deutschland

I chose this because it is cheap. I will get watercooling when I start overclocking.
**Motherboard** | [Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z170progaming) | €157.84 @ Mindfactory

It was hard to find a good mobo. I think this will do.
**Memory** | [Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-memory-cmk16gx4m2a2133c13r) | €93.07 @ Amazon Deutschland

16GB is nice when hosting servers. Don't need ultra-fast ram as I don't use the integrated gpu.
**Storage** | [Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz75e250bam) | €89.95 @ Mindfactory

SSD is a must for me. This one is cheap (enough) and is 250GB which is enough for an OS + programs.
**Storage** | [Western Digital Blue 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd20ezrz) | €77.21 @ Mindfactory

I like western digital, and 2TB for 80EUR is just perfect. TY WD.
**Video Card** | [Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970g1gaming4gd) | €366.96 @ Mindfactory

I chose this GPU because it can run all new games at ultra/high. I will be upgrading this over the years if I feel like.
**Case** | [Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/phanteks-case-phes614pbk) | €112.29 @ Mindfactory

This case is just beautiful.
**Power Supply** | [EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20750xr) | €127.89 @ Amazon Deutschland

I chose this PSU not because of the 750W, but because of the 10 year warrenty. The 650W and 550W have long delivery times.
**Operating System** | [Microsoft Windows 10 Home Full - USB (32/64-bit)](http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/microsoft-os-kw900016) |-

I like windows 10.

I think your goal of keeping the computer for 10 years is extremely farfetched, but regardless...

I'd go for the Haswell 4790K instead of Skylake if you're looking to do more programming/server use. There's not much of a difference for programming as much as rendering videos and such, plus it's cheaper. And it's a few bucks cheaper itself along with the RAM.

Throw that little extra money you saved into an R9 390, and you got yourself a very gaming and workstation worthy machine.

PSU is great, case is good, storage is good,  MB is solid, RAM is good.

Pretty good build though. Just personally I think Skylake is overrated.

Spoiler

To be clear: The 10 year includes upgrades. So this is not the final build.

I went with skylake because I think skylake will last longer, because it is newer. There will (probarly) be more cpus comming so I have possibilities to upgrade in the future (altough the 6700k is a really good cpu so I probarly won't in the next few years).

I went over the whole R9 390 VS GTX 970 thing for me but I went with the gtx 970 because it doesn't produce as much heat, and the gtx 970 is good enough for me anyways. All my friends have nvidia stuff. The only reason would be the amount of vram it has, because 2 monitors will be close to 3,5gb in games like gta 5.

tfw CS:GO is considered an old game.

it is an old game because its engine is fairly old, so any modern pc (except mine...) will be able to run it.
