Except DX12 will prefer more cores and the OP wants the build to last 4 - 5 years. In addition the OP stated he has 800 - 900 USD for THE REMAINING PARTS, which gets a build like this:

Hello Everyone,

i am currently trying to assemble my first custom pc.

i have no experience what so ever in terms of picking parts etc. however i am trying to do the best research possible.

so far i have a few components chosen already, but i am unsure if they will work together and whether or not they are the right choices.

so far the specs are:

CPU: Intel i7-5820k

GPU: GeForce GTX 970

SSD: Samsung Pro 950 m.2

The items below is pretty unclear for right now and i hope you could possibly help me make a right choice here.
CPU cooler - none chosen yet.

Motherboard - in future i might want to add another Samsung pro 950 m.2 so if its possible to find a motherboard which supports this would be nice.

Ram - This all depends on the motherboard but i want either 8 or 16 ram in total.

power supply - as not all parts are picked, i have not chosen this yet.

bonus suggestion: if you know any silent case which fits these components, please let me know, though it is not much of a priority right now :)

i will mostly use the PC for gaming, however i want to make it "future proof" as much as possible, by that i mean able to play games with 60 fps at decent settings for the next 4-5 years.

i will be using a single monitor 24" or 27" full HD, however in the later years i might want to upgrade to 4k, however its not much of a priority for me right now.

i will appreciate every single thought of yours, so don't be shy to burn my choices, however the budget is fairly tight after the purchase of the SSD, CPU and GPU, so please bear in mind.

Best regards :)

What is your budget ?

Do you want to have an AIO (All In One) watercooling system for the CPU ?

Do you plan on adding more RAM later on ?

For the case, you can buy a be quiet! Silent Base 800, veeeeeery silent case, or an NZXT H440 for example. These two are great though !

First, we need to know your budget.
Second, at what resolution you gonna play at?

If it's a purely gaming pc, it's not worth while getting a hyper expensive CPU as most of the games now are gpu intensive.

No, since it's your partlist, it can't change, did you notice the weird letters behind the url ? Yeah that's a permalink.

You gave us a link to a partlist we don't have.

i don't have an AIO currently

i do not know if im planning on that - well if i get 16gb i for sure wont, but for now due to the budget i would be fine with 1x 8gb or 2x 4gb i think

thanks for the tip on the cases, those look really great :)

I think you should go for an i5 then, and not a Skylake one.

By the way why do you need an M.2 SSD ?

An i5 4690K or a Skylake 6600K should be enough for a 5 year span.
For the gpu, you could swap it for a R9 390 or use the cash saved to go for a 980ti. I suggest perhaps wait a little for pascal/polaris and see their performance.

The cooler doesn't need to be super expensive. Something like a hyper 212 or be Quiet PURE ROCK should give you respectable OC headroom.

If you plan only on gaming, you don't need a M.2 SSD. You could get a 850 EVO for cheaper and get some hard drive for MASS STORAGE.

If you decide to go for an AMD gpu, it's worth while to pick a Freesync panel since they're quite affordable. (compared to Gsync panels :( )

For power supply, an 80+ bronze 500 watt should be enough but if you feel on dumping more cash on it, go for a gold rating.

i'm trying to use http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ as an indicator of what to get.

i could see the potential in downgrading the CPU a bit, in terms of a better GPU, but downgrading would only give me 100$ extra, which maybe could get me GTX 980?

but would that be worth it considering a downgrade from the i7- 5820 to the i5-4690?

taking your initial 1200 ish budget and adding 800/900 USD gives 2000 - 2100 USD. I dropped the windows and 970 and came up with this build:

Wow thank you, that looks very awesome, may i ask for the reasons for replacing of the GPU from 970 to 980? as my first choice was the 980 aswell but due to the budget i cut it down a bit to the 970, can the 970 run games like shadows of mordor on 60 fps? - i really like your choice of power, ram and cooler :)

thanks a lot :)

Its basically the best GPU available, and whilst it's overkill now for 1080P it will last the longest of the current GPU's

Wow yeah, completely missed that TI, thought that was way out of my budget, but i might be able to squeeze that in after all.

this is a tricky quesiton, but how long would you reckon a single 970 would last? while playing on best settings? as i'm thinking that maybe if the 970 would be enough for now, i could SLI/crossfire 2 of them in the future?

Firestrike, why would you recommend the H110i GTX instead?
