I have an 8 year old machine, the Dell Studio XPS 435T/9000. It was a great machine that held up well enough to make it to GreenHamGaming as the classic i7 gaming Dell. Anyways, I wanted to upgrade the CPU from a i7-920 to an i7-970. Unfortunately, when I booted it up, the OS would not boot and the fans sped up like crazy. Even the BIOS setup screen locks up after a while. I switched back to the old CPU, and no luck. I even pulled out all the RAM leaving 1 stick which I swapped out twice. While I could afford to buy a new PC, I really want to continue using this machine that otherwise holds up really well. Any advice? I literally grew up using that computer since I started middle school (I am now in college)
