Does the $#% Windows 10 search ever work?

Completely flipping useless!  Is there some secret handshake I need to know for this blasted thing to do anything?

Ya im not a fan of it, it finds some things...but its not good. Which is a shame because when it works its so much damn faster

Yeah it's pretty bad. I use it for programs that aren't on my Taskbar but that's about it. If it's a file I just got to the drive I know it's on in Explorer and search for it there in the top left. Screw all this internet integration crap.

I'm not sure why so many people are experiencing issues, as long as I enter a fairly precise word or phrase it finds what I'm looking for 9/10 times.

Maybe I'm the only one not having any issues with it, it can easily find all the programs I'm looking for, even if I'm looking for a specific .mp4 it finds it never had any issues.

it finds XComGame.ini but doesnt find the exe....thats an issue

Sometimes I think that it's case sensitive, other times I just sit there staring at the search box in dumbfounded amazement.

I edited my post easily finds any games or anything I'm looking for.

Also looking up xcom in "my stuff" gives me a ton of folders in my xcom directory and a ton of config files but still no exe

Congrats, just because you are not having issues doesnt mean others are not, this is a well known problem with the OS at this time and im willing to bet if you try and push it harder it will start failing you, its a bad search engine and it needs fixing.

It seems to work about the same as Windows 7/8 search. Which is to say not very good. OSX spotlight is way better.

I havent but frankly you shouldnt have to to make a search work properly if im honest I never indexed in windows 7 or 8 either and they were fine.

If you want to, but you did answer my question.  Having SSDs I don't index and it doesn't seem to be the issue so no need to.

Yes, also for steam games if you have it set to create a shortcut on Start menu or desktop  it can easily find your games.

yeah, I'm not trying to search for games.  I only ever try the search for obscure applications and odd files, and it never works.

Who needs to search for games anyways?

Try

1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window (press win + X, and then press A)
2. Type start powershell and press enter
3. Run the command (in one line):

   Get-AppXPackage -Name Microsoft.Windows.Cortana | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

I double checked it its actually "XComGame.exe" but it didnt find that either
