Hey Guys I was wondering what the best way would be to make a picture file size smaller

currently the screenshots I want to upload are 25 MB and I don't want to lose too much of

the quality of the picture, I tried some method that I read elsewhere and it made the picture

super grainy.

Thanks, CJ

Whaaaaaaat? 25MB? Are you saving them as .BMP? Or what's the resolution? What's going on? That's like 20 times as high as it's supposed to be.

The screenshots are saving as .bmp at 4K

Edit: I guess I'll just use paint to change to jpeg that seems like the best bet, even though it is tedious

Ok. :D The .bmp is your first problem. They're ancient and usually huge. Using .jpg should fix it off the bat. If you're grabbing a lot of text instead of like game or video image, .png will have better quality but it's a bit bigger than .jpg

.jpg supports different levels of compression but that adds to the artifacts and craps the quality. If you drop the resolution, you can drop the file size but avoid artifacts. You can even drop to 1080p and upscale back to 4K if you need to. It's bad practice but sometimes it's all you can do. That'll save some file size, retain the resolution but worsen the quality. .Jpg has a few other tricks like progressive format like chroma subsampling but I've found that they don't really make a difference.

I work with online graphics like ads where download time is key so I've handled my share of catch-22s regarding file sizes and quality.

That would be very tedious... so don't do that. Use some sort of batch image converter. I haven't used any so I can't recommend one specifically but I'm sure there's a good free one.
