What is this worth?

CalebTheEternal

I live in Colorado and Craigstlist around here has had a lot of bad things happen, so I don't want to use that. I think local pickup will be a good thing to do because I think shipping will be expensive and increases the chance of something breaking. Long story short I'm looking for advice on what to do to sell it, and maybe how much I should ask for. My PC is in my signature and on my profile.

Social media probably best bet in the first place or anyone within a local gaming community you may have contacts with. Selling on things like ebay and craiglist would be far too risky / stressful in my opinion.

Also money is relative to what you paid. If you want to sell the rig as a complete unit you will probably end up worse off than breaking it down and selling the components.

Don't go basing parts on what you paid for them or at market value at new prices.   Try ebay, amazon, or here.  And, you might get more by parting.

How should I value them? Aren't systems that are already built going to sell a little more? Will it help that the GPUs are plasti dipped to match the rest of the build? Look on ebay and stuff for prices? Or sell on there? Like I said before, I want local pickup. Also Ebay takes like 10% and that will be like $150 probably.

The plasti dipping is a custom mod that was done to suit your taste.... practically worthless to someone else really.

I'd say the resale value of your rig is anywhere between $1350 and $1650.

True. That low? Brand new it's like $2,000 and that's what I was kind of looking for. If I can only get $1350 there is no point in me selling it because I can sell my spare parts for $700. What if I part it out?

Honestly, I'd base off lower to average prices.  Not high asking prices if you go that route.  However, it has to be off used ones.  I don't think anyone outside a high end enthusiest would be interested in plasti dipping as an added value.  Also, local might be difficult unless there's a good shop that won't rip ya off.

Yeah, well most of the parts are like brand new, been used for like 3 months. The motherboard, CPU, and Ram are all basically brand new. Yeah I know people don't care that much but whatever. Yeah I guess so about the plasti dipping thing. So I might be better off selling it for parts... Lovely. With parts though Ebay is more of an option.

Think of it like a car you've bought brand new out of the factory. The second you've purchased it - you've lost thousands in resale value. That's just how it goes.

You won't be able to get anywhere near the cost value for it. And ebay for parts can be a nightmare - people claiming they don't work ect and Paypal battles - I would never even consider it with enthusiast gear. Better safe than sorry rather than losing out on your investment.

Well it shouldn't be that much. I've sold parts before and they weren't that cheap. If not ebay or anything then what? I don't know any local places to sell PC parts. I can ask people at school.

Can't give you a magic solution I'm afraid - just sounds like an investment combined with poor timing / decision making.

And you are forgetting now that the appeal for the 2011-v3 series is much less with the full release of the 1151 offerings and upcoming Broadwell-E stuff, it has a serious impact on the resale value of your gear. The 5820K was before DDR4 was mainstream, and even then some people still go with 4790K DDR3 rigs as it offers better single core performance over the 5820K.

Ebay sounds like your only solution but not to sound offensive - you come across as young so be very very careful with ebay and prepare for some headaches with people.

Yeah I am decently young. I am 17, I have sold parts on ebay before and yeah some headaches. If I part it out shouldn't I be able to get more though?

Well the only downside to splitting is that you have to sell everything which can also be difficult especially with things like cases.

If you split I'd expect you'd claw back $1500 minimum. The only solution that's a true winner is if you find someone that appreciates the custom work you have done and want's the rig!

Good luck whatever you try and do! :-)

Yeah thanks. I'll ask around at school to see if anyone wants it. Might part it out, but whatever. Thanks for the help.

Probably the one thing holding the most value is the 5820k.  They go for about 365 used, but not many would shoot for that.  I'd drop it to like 300-330.

That low? Ebay says they are at around 400 but that's high, I was thinking like 350 would be good. I think the 970s will be an easy sell too, as long as they don't mind the customness of them.
