Hey Guys.

My father have just started new job and they have provided him with a business router. This routers is not configurable and therefor we need to get a new router and just the business one as modem. Now to the problem. We live in a two storage house, and the single strength in the basement the terrible. Around a year ago we bought an Airport Extreme from Apple and "installed" a cable from the router to the Airport in the basement. That resulted in a good wifi signal, but two networks. Now we need to invest in a new router to replace the business one, so here is the question. Should and is it possbile, to invest in an Airport express and place it in the basement while we replace our business router with out Airport extreme. Will this be reliable and will it make a extended network instead of two networks. If any of you have better solution I am all ears.  Not to expensive though, we don't want to invest big time ;)

Yes you can do that. The Airport Express in the options should have a feature that says something like extend wifi or something (if I remember right). Basically, you are using it as an access point only.

Another option is to buy a dedicated access point.

I second the access point recommendation. Although I would do everything I could to avoid an extender as they're trash. Is it at all possible to get an ethernet wire from the router to your basement (or closer to your basement than your actual router is)?

The extend wifi thing is just what the option says as opposed to saying access point. It acts like an access point. The OP already stated that they have a cable running to the basement.

Okay I just looked it up. Apparently apple sucks More than I remember. Airport express can't do access point. So just get a real access point.
