So, after I just finished my first build in a long time, every old and slow PC in the house has to go so the second build is about to start.

The first one was more of an anti-modding one, because it is supposed to serve as a workstation and designed to be as quiet and stealth as possible (-> signature).

This upcoming one though is for my desk, where already two Monkey Banana Monitors (http://www.monkey-banana.de/products/turbo6/) in Red/Black are standing. In general red/black is my thing. So obviously the build is going to be a red/black one. It is for web browsing, gaming, watching movies etc., not a machine for productivity. Since I have no experience in case-modding and stuff like that, I have a couple questions concerning my build. But first off, my part list:

  • Case: Phanteks Evolv ITX Special Edition Red/Black (love on first sight!)
  • CPU: i3 6320
  • Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalems Red Series with red LED fans
  • MB: ROG VIII Impact (also considering the MSI Z170I Gaming Pro AC because of the red rear I/O)
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX Red
  • Storage: Kingston HyperX Savage 480GB
  • PSU: BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 11 with Cablemod Cables
  • Case Fans: 140mm Red LED fans (preferably the Phantek ones, I didn´t find them on partpicker though)

Now to my questions:

  1. Is there something as too many red LEDs?
  2. Can there be too much red in general to still get the black/red across? The MB is 90% black as well as more than half of the case, so I am all about getting as many red pieces in there as possible. But I am worried that all the red components with red LEDs could look not as good as expected? All case fans are supposed to be red LED fans, as well as the CPU fans..
  3. Basically same issue. Cablemod: Would all red cables be too much? More leaning towards the black/red combo there but again, wondering what it looks like with red light everywhere.

I hope someone will help my figure this out before I spend the rest of the year returning components because I overdid my case theme  Really want to nail this on the first try, I put a lot of thought into detail so major flaws would bother me a lot!

Have a nice day everyone! B|

No this one is not supposed to be one, my other build was. This one is just for media consumption and mostly strategy games. Going to edit the original post :)

1. yea just evenly space them out and use weak tape to test if then will look good in a given position. if they don't look good move them to see if it looks better. once you found the position you like then permanently secure them into place.

2. i think it will look fine as long as you keep the mb black

3. go black and red cables i think will look better and tie the build together because cables go to most of the parts in the build. :)  sorry for poor grammar.

I actually just bought an Evolv ATX and was going to pull out the tray and basement cover to have them powder coated red. I took a look at some red and black themed builds and decided against it, red becomes to much really fast.

CPU | Intel i9-10850K | GPU | EVGA 3080ti FTW3 HYBRID  | CASE | Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX | PSU | Corsair HX850i | RAM | 2x8GB G.skill Trident RGB 3000MHz | MOTHERBOARD | Asus Z490E Strix | STORAGE | Adata XPG 256GB NVME + Adata XPG 1T + WD Blue 1TB + Adata 480GB SSD | COOLING | Evga CLC280 | MONITOR | Acer Predator XB271HU | OS | Windows 10 |

Yes I think a similar way now. I´d rather go RGB Lighting if I want red, but you do not really want a completely red glowing machine all the time. My focus is now to get all components as white as possible, so the RGB strips/fans/whatever can determine the way it looks. Just not too many small, color neutral boards out there..
