Nexus or Oneplus?

  1. 1. Should I get a Nexus 5 or a OnePlus X

    • OnePlus X ~ $250

So I'm on a budget for a new phone and I'm not looking for anything particularly fancy. Right now my options are a Nexus 5 which is outdated but definitely still holds up for normal stuff, or a Oneplus X which has great craftsmanship and a very premium feel to it. They both are almost identical inside for specs except for battery, and the 1+X offers a amoled display. On the other hand, the 1+X doesn't have NFC/wireless charging, no AC wifi, and looks like it can get damaged pretty easily. The Nexus 5 seems to have a lot of popularity with developers and seems like the standard phone with the latest updates. This doesn't have a amoled display and the battery is slightly smaller, but there's a 100$ difference between these phones. It also has wireless charging, and stock android. What's your opinion on this, should I just go with the Oneplus since it's newer? Any other phone recommendations?

I had the nexus 5 and it was fine. the battery life just became crap after a year of use so I switched to an iphone. I think the opx will do better in terms of battery life cause of the amoled screen, but I don't think its worth paying that much more. nexus 5 batteries are like $10 a pop on amazon so you could just switch them out when they start to deteriorate. Either way, those phones are nearly stock android and well speced , so either are ideal. I do like the build quality of the opx though.

i use a 1+ x daily and im happy to report that with the included case and pre-attached screen protector it holds up quite good. i recently dropped the lower part into my sauce and it survived undamaged. also drops werent a problem to this point. i personally can live without ac and nfc, wireless charging would have been nice though. camera is really good too and the recently added manual mode is very good. i would take instead of the nexus because of the gestures and wake feature (simillar to moto x)

*Edit i think higher end phones arent worth it too. had the moto x 2014 when it came out and that survived 6 month on me

Thanks! This was really helpful. Is there anything else that bugs you about the phone in daily use?

If you can wait maybe another month or so, Nexus 5X is a better deal at $250 and will last you longer with supported updates for 2+ years. However since you are comparing Nexus 5 to One Plus X, I think Nexus 5 as it has more overall carrier support and better support overall. I dont even think Marshmallow is available on the One Plus X ( I could be wrong on that.)
