Oh damn.. Well, you can use some soft brush if the pins aren't that fragile. wet with alcohol or other solvents.

Spray WD-40 onto it and wait. It should disolve the paste far better than rubbing alcohol, which should then be used to remove the WD-40

Alternatively soak the thing in alcohol and leave it in a warm place for a week.

I would get some 99% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). You could go as far as submerging the chip completely but you can probably get away with diluting/dissolving the paste with soaked cotton balls or cue tips

In fact. Those pins are sturdy. Use an old soft toothbrush with the alcohol.

just a question - how did that go in there?

Anything that could dissolve it, alcohol probably, but WD-40 might work, I don't know.

I like @Allshevski 's idea. Take a really soft-bristled toothbrush and wet it with rubbing alcohol. The pins on those AMD CPUs are not nearly as fragile as you might think. Scrub the pins lightly and it should work nicely.
