Another build!

Cataclyst

Hey guys! Its me again xD. But this new build isn't for me, it's for my Dad. He was asking me what are the specs needed for him to Render Autocad graphics and all. I really have no idea what are the exact specs needed Graphic Design, cuz he's an architect. So...can anyone suggest an ok Computer for Autocad and around what price point does it fall? Thank you in advance! :)

My dad is using the program "Sketchup"

Higher budget if he needs a Quadro/Firepro

I don't think that you would need a quadro/firepro for autocad, a 7970 would be fine.

What programs is he using? Would Cuda be better or Radeon for OpenCL?

I believe that audocad is optimized for OpenCL

Thanks for everyone's reply! :). Uhm...would this be enough? Would he be able to render Autocad things fast?

I would lean towards something like this.

You pick the quadro card for it's computational abilities and drivers. If he does more Opencl optimized work, he might want a Firepro instead.

No point in the locked processor with a Z87 board, get a 4770K. You could also probably save some money by just getting a 7950 (I recommend the Gigabyte/Windforce one) and overclocking it. Also 80+ gold power supplies are almost never worth it unless electricity is super expensive where you live.

Yes this will be fast. Ask your dad what programs he'll be using and what his maximum budget is so we can add/subtract what we need to if his budget allows and so we can change the parts for what programs he'll be using

No point in a K cpu if his dad isn't going to OC it. Unless OP says his dad is going to.

It depends on how heavy his renders are. Have any examples?

Hey, It took me forever to find this again. Sorry for bringing it back. But my Dad uses the program "Sketchup" to render 3D Graphics. He's an Interior Designer btw.

Any examples for the scale of projects he's doing?

Alright. Is a small form factor more preferable or does it not matter?

Alright. Since no budget is specified, here are a 2 builds at different sweet spot price brackets.

$750: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2CFA2

$1500: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2CFDX

Thanks :D. Could you tell me what would be the advantage of the $750 and a $1500 build? And how long would be the rendering time would be? approx.

Depends what you're rendering. Just look up respective benchmarks with the cpus since final 3d rendering is pretty much just cpu reliant.

Hardware rendering by the gpu is generally so light that it shouldn't take long enough to worry about.

What the $1500 build has over the $750 is a bit more flexibility with more ssd storage, more expandability with the mobo, and more powerful cores + more threads.
