So I'm going to college next year, and I'm most likely to be living in a relatively small dorm with not much space. So I decided I'd shrink my system down for Micro-ATX to Mini-ITX.

Here are the parts that are currently in the Micro-ATX system-
Micro-Monsta

  • Intel Core i5-4690k
  • Corsair h100i
  • Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5
  • 4x4GB's Corsair Vengeance LP
  • 2x Gigabyte G1 GTX 960 2GB
  • Corsair RM750i
  • Corsair 350D
  • Kingston V300 240GB SSD
  • Western Digital Blue 1TB HDD
  • 2x Corsair SP120
  • 2x Corsair AF140

Here are the parts that will be in the Mini-ITX system-

Mini-Monsta

  • Intel Core i7-4770k
  • Corsair h100i
  • EVGA Z87 Stinger
  • 2x8GB's Patriot Signature
  • EVGA GTX 980 SC 4GB
  • Corsair RM750i
  • Corsair 250D
  • Kingston V300 240GB SSD
  • Western Digital Blue 1TB HDD
  • 2x Corsair SP120
  • 1x Corsair AF140

Deconstruction Log:

2/23/2016

  • Today I'm going to ship out my dual GTX 960's to the people I sold them to on EBay and then order my 980.

2/24/2016

  • So I've successfully sold almost my entire system and I'll be ordering my new parts in a few days.
  • I've also confirmed a trade of my i5-4690k + $120 for a Z87 Stinger and a i7-4770k.

oh... that description really helped; from the title I expected you to just take a buzz saw to the motherboard like Linus did what that GPU :D

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Not that I don't like Micro-ATX systems or anything like that but I really dig small yet powerful systems. Not only that but my space in my doom room will be very limited so I'll want to have as small of a system as human possible.

See, the case I'm getting isn't limited on internal space as it's very well optimized. Not only that but the Nano can get very hot very quickly and can't be overclocked much, where as the 980 I'm getting is significantly cheaper and will also stay cooler and quieter + OC further.

Depending on the building and your location, you may want to consider how much heat output this is going to have too.  Hot system + small room with no AC = bad time :(

It's a college dorm at an expensive school in New England, it'll pretty much always be cold. :P

The build is complete! and is nearly dead silent since I removed the HDD and only have 3 fans running at very low RPM's.
