Starcraft -Which Graphics Card?

7 members have voted

  1. 1. I'm playing starcraft 2 and I want to build a new pc. I think I want to play starcraft around 30-40fps and on a 720p monitor. Which Graphics card should I be enough?

At 720p you will crush 40fps with a 750ti, especially if you have a halfway decent CPU.

950 is the same cost just much faster

I play a lot of LOL, and before my 980ti when I had a 650 SC i was getting over 100+ FPS.  A 950/960 will do fine, I promise you.

Current Build: Core i7 4790k @ 4.6, Asus Maximus VII Hero, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400mhz 8gb (2x4gb), GTX 980ti, NZXT Kraken X61, Fractal Define R5  EVGA Supernova B2 850w, Some 300gb hard drive.

SC2 can run on pretty much any GPU.

The real problem is that it requires really really beefy single-threaded CPU performance. An OC'd Intel CPU is the single best thing. A 4.7 GHz G3258 will run it better than an FX-9590 by a shitload.

Single thread IPC is more important for SC2 than a GPU so just get an i5 4460 or 4590 if you live near a Microcenter. Decide on a GPU with the rest of your budget, preferably a gtx 950 or r9 380, depending on how much you have left.

While I can't say the same for the GPUs you've listed, I tried it on my i5-2400 and GT-730 and tested it at 720p and 1280p on High and Extreme (Extreme is the highest possible setting) and the results were:

(1280x720, High)
68 FPS - 200 marines walking around the terrain without nearby bases
51 FPS - 200 marines inside my base
27-32 FPS - 200 marines simultaneously attacking the enemy's base

(1280x720, Extreme)
40 FPS - 200 marines walking around the terrain without nearby bases
29 FPS - 200 marines inside my base
18-23 FPS - 200 marines simultaneously attacking the enemy's base

(1920x1080, High)
56 FPS - 200 marines walking around the terrain without nearby bases
35 FPS - 200 marines inside my base
20-25 FPS - 200 marines simultaneously attacking the enemy's base

(1920x1080, Extreme)
32 FPS - 200 marines walking around the terrain without nearby bases
19 FPS - 200 marines inside my base
17-21 FPS - 200 marines simultaneously attacking the enemy's base

I added a minimum-maximum fps for simultaneous attacks since they fluctuate at a rapid rate during the fight compared to a steady -1,+1 fps difference while walking in the terrain or while inside my base.

I hope it could've been of some help.

In 4v4 I have sometimes 1 fps. Current build: i5-2430m and a gt 520m. I know.... I need a new pc
