Hello, I am fairly new to the pc master race. I have a system that was made by my local gaming shop. I have since upgraded the cpu cooler and gpu. Recently my PSU died (it is one of those cheep ones) so I had to buy a psu on the spot without too much research. I now have the CX600M. On the semi modular cx600m there is a 8pin to 2 6 plus 2 pins. I have also considered getting a new GPU so run in sli, The MSI 960 4G I know it is kind of stupid than getting a 970 but in my situation (pricing etc) it makes sense also having proper 4g is a good thing. The card requires a 8 pin. That means I do have the 2 8 pins required but I dont know if that is enough to power the two cards because they come off the same 8 pin port on the psu, I was starting to think that the PSU was designed for 1 8 pin or 2 6 pin. I do how ever have a 6 to 8 pin connector that came with the psu which I can use on the separate 6 pin port on the psu I do not want to do this however because I like to overclock my cards. Thanks!

In theory, you can run those cards with daisy chained cables. The only ones that you can't do it with are the dual-GPU cards like the R9 295X2. TDP of those cards is 120W, so you should be fine running them in SLI, but don't take my word for it.

What would concern me is if the case has enough airflow and if your motherboard is suited for SLI. Please give me models for both or just pics for the case.

Theoretically you should have just enough as max load power consumption of  two 960s comes to about 470w.

If u have anything above i5 TDP (i7-4790k, fx 8320 etc.) then u run into issues as i7 can eat up to 140w...

The one thing is, CX series isnt really meant for gaming ao there is a risk of it failing. CX has bad reputation here on the forum.

I own same psu but i only have one 760 in it and plenty of headroom.

Power consumption results for CPU and GPU here:

Thank you both so much for replying!

@Thony My power consumption should be fine I hope. I right now I have a I5-4690 which I probably will not upgrade for the foreseeable future, I have already done many power calculators and they all recommend a ~500 - 550 wat power with the load being in the neighborhood of around 470w as you said. I would also like to know if the i5 6600k is fine with my power limits. Because depending of life I might go with that and do an over haul on my pc

@Gachr I have also thought about compatibly and soon will also be saving up for a a better Mobo and a case. Right now my system can run in sli with mobo being a h97. My case that I will be getting to replace my gaming budget case which was a bad buy is going to be either the Enthoo Pro m or the Define R5, and if you have any knowledge about these cases which do you prefer. My price rage is around $100 and I need at least 1 drive bay. Also I forgot to mention the mobo I want to get is the MSI Z97A GAMING 7. I know it is basically what I already have but what can I really do. What I am looking in a system Is almost maxing out games at 1080p with some modding if the game allows that.

PS Depending on life n stuff on how much money I can squeeze out I might upgrade to 6th gen proseser the i5 6600k which will be combined with the MSI Z170A GAMING Pro.

I wouldnt put overclockable CPU into your build. PSU could limit you there.

Change your PSU for 700w from seasonic or evga and u dont have to worry.

I see u want ro upgrade your mobo from H to Z. Do not do that...u want skylake i5 and if u are not going for ddr4 compatible mobo, u dont need i5 skylake either.

I5-4690 wont limit your sli 960s. Nor it would 970s.

You should be fine then, but you need to upgrade your mobo before buying the 2nd card. Case upgrade would be preferred, but I think current one would be fine with the side open. Also, keep in mind that some games won't perform well - those without SLI optimisation or without any SLI support at all.

I don't think that an upgrade to Skylake is worth it. I don't want to discuss it because everyone has a different opinion and experience, but... take my word for it and don't take a motherboard from MSI, in my experience, they are the worst.

Just noticed your h97 doesnt have sli support, only crossfire.

Well in that case u should upgrade that mobo. In which case u wont upgrade cpu for a while.
