So, i upgraded my gaming rig a month ago, and since then my memory has been acting up in a strange way. Basically, here's a timeline of usage over 4-5 days:

Day 1: Memory is running fine at 11% idle, everything seems fine.

Day 2: Memory usage has gone up to 31% idle, seemingly for no reason.

Day 3: Memory usage at idle has again gone up by 20% and is now sitting at 51%.

Day 4: Memory usage at idle is now sitting at 71%.

Day 5: Memory usage is at 100%, which was noticed when i tried to play TF2 and it ran unbelieveably choppy.

I do not have a clue what is causing this and i've been pulling my hair out trying to find a fix on google, to no avail. I figured coming here would be the best thing to do. All i do know is completely disconnecting the system from power makes the memory go back to day 1 state and continue the cycle until i unplug power again.

Parts list.

Motherboard: ASRock Z170 Gaming K6+

Memory: 16 GB kit of HyperX Predator DDR4 (running at stock settings, no XMP)

CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K

GPU: 2x GTX 560Ti DirectCUII from Asus

I am also running Windows 10.

Is it an incompatibility issue or what is wrong here, i'd be very grateful for some help with this. Thanks in advance!

You are better off reporting it to us that you want it deleted. We are not magicians and do not see every thread - the only reasons why I see some posts that people request to be removed are either because the thread was interesting and I naturally went into it, or the poster or another user reported it to us.

@Godlygamer23 That's the thing, The original RAM was faulty and had to be replaced by a new kit, and by then i already had everything i needed installed. By now making a list of them all would take a while, but i guess i'll single out the more important things, and what i had when it started.

Skype, Steam, Origin, Discord, Mumble, Teamspeak, OBS, Chrome, Dropbox, and Evolve.

The thing is, looking through the processes, "System Memory and compressed memory" sometimes goes up to 600 MB, but never above that, yet the total percentage goes up regadless of everything else.

@Ruhel Yes, it's never on for more than 8 hours a day.

What programs do you normally have running in the background? The ones you have control over.

@GodlyGamer23 I have Killer Network Manager, Intel Rapid Storage, Steam, Chrome, Discord and Skype running usually. The system starts up with more than that but i usually turn those off right away to prevent them from slowing the system down.

If possible, I would try to close off the programs that you can close while monitoring RAM usage to see if anything causes a major reduction in usage.

Task Manager is not always accurate when it comes to RAM consumed by processes. I had an installer a long time ago consume all of my RAM, but when looking at Task Manager, it only reported something like 100MB being used. I closed the installer, and RAM usage dropped dramatically.

@Godlygamer23 Alright, so i closed everything except my anti-virus, and nothing changed. I am beginning to think i should try having my RAM run in XMP and see what happens from there.

RAM consumption and XMP aren't related to each other.

@Jacksy Well, when we originally tried to install Windows on the computer, it refused to work at all. It would load to a certain point and then the computer would reset, and removing two of the RAM sticks fixed it. I have a feeling the RAM was fine, but the motherboard itself must be defective, as we requested a new kit and that's currently in the computer. But hey, i can live just fine with 8 Gigs, it's just annoying.
