Hi,

I intend on building a gaming/streaming pc and I'm wondering which is more important for this scenario, more cores for the cpu or hyperthreading? I could go with something like fx-8350 4GHz which is 8 cores and much cheaper than something like Intel i7 5820k with 6 cores and 3.3 Ghz for more than 2x the price. I'm not the most tech savvy but those are very dramatic price differences so I'm not sure why but I'm assuming they perform differently.

Basically would just like some input. Thanks!

the 8350 is a 4 year old CPU.

It performs pretty terribly in single and multi-core performance compared to an i5.

The 5820k absolutely wrecks the 8350 in all applications, including gaming.

Depending at what resolution you are streaming, the CPU is pretty easy, the more cores/speed it has, the better your quality will be.

GPU is less important to an extent, you still want your game to run smooth while streaming, but the CPU, is more important in that regard.

An 8350 would do just fine for streaming and gaming, no need to shell out 300+ extra dollar on a high-end Intel chip for that kind of stuff.

The Intel chip will outperform the AMD chip, because it has such fast clock-for-clock speeds, but overall, it is not that great of a difference to justify the price difference.

This is probably your best option.  It is essentially an i7-4770 (3.4ghz, 4 cores/8 threads, no overclocking) without the iGPU and will work on an LGA 1150 socket.  It's single threaded performance still blows away the FX, which is what holds the FX back in a lot of games right now.  You basically get this if you can't afford the 5820k, and for gaming/streaming it should be good with the right GPU.
