Oh i see now haha, since its not an unlocked processor, upping the FSB will make changes to RAM as well meaning up to a certain point the ram will become unstable making the overclock a failure. Or maybe the motherboard was not really make for 'overclocking'.

So what can I do ?

Well first the CPU has an locked multiplier meaning you wont be able to overclock as much, only way to overclock it is via FSB bit it wont overclock much! then you have to stable the memory timings etc.. Since the motherboard by the looks of it hates overclocking theres really no way to actually fix it other than getting a new motherboard which allows a bit of overclocking.

OT: I use to have a motherboard which does this, I would overclock in bios but then it resets to defaults when computer starts up.

It is a GIGABYTE P55A UD3P motherboard

hmm, by the looks of it, you should be able to get good decent overclocks on that board. Hmmm looking at the voltage it may be a tad to low? try to get it on 1.225 and try again? ALSO update the bios if you havent already have the latest flashed.

Check this thread out it may help you. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?260826-Gigabyte-P55A-UD3-i5-760-bad-overclocking-experience

My ultimate guess would be that the Vcore is to low.

I did not adjust any of the volts I just enable the load line calibration . And yes I am on the latest driver

LLC stops vdroops, to OC you need to up the vcore atleast to stable the cpu on your desired ghz, then to stabilise run prime95 and if you get rounding errors then you need to stabilise your ram timings.

so in the bios I only need to change the voltage on the CPU and not touch on the others? Sorry it was my first time over clocking

Only touch the others if you have to. try set vcore to 1.25 voltage and from there lower the voltage until computer wont boot then up it a tad of increments and run prime95 for stability. Since its a locked processor you will run into problems with the ram, so you have to fiddle with the timings. I would honestly say that you should get a unlocked processor its less hassle..

would not plan on getting one right now... But thanks for the help anyway

again this locked multiplier thing on 1156 you just dont need an unlocked multiplier cpu on 1156 just decrease your memory multiplier increase bus speed and increase voltage (vtt and vcore) i like overclocking this platform even though it doesn't like it that much

i overclocked my schools i5 650(i know its a dual core but still) to 4ghz with vcore set to (i dont remember what vtt was set to) 1.3v in back in 2011

what i have done was set ram multiplier to 8x and increased the bus speed without messing with timings (although i could always tighten em up just didnt have much time) then increase the voltage once i get above 3.9 i had stability issues i remember increasing vtt a little bit but not sure how much

in overclocking complicated it gets more fun you get (for me atleast)
