Hi all,

Last night I shut my computer off (via the start menu, nothing sketchy here) and when I turned it on this morning, everything was gone. kind of. all my data and games seem to still be on my C drive, but all my desktop icons were gone, windows had reset all my setting (edge was placed back on the taskbar and set as default browser for example) and Chrome has forgotten all my bookmarks, etc. Basically, everything is still technically on the computer, but its as if i just installed everything.

I normally just put the computer to sleep, if that somehow has anything to do with it. sorry if this isnt really the place to ask something like this, but i couldnt find anything online and figured someone here might know whats going on.

Sounds like SATA controller issue or your HDD/SSD, where data is kept in cache, and not flushed our to disk.

Can you go on Device Manager, go to your main drive, and access its properties.

What option is enabled inside?

Also, make sure you have the latest SATA controller drivers. If you do already, create a restore point, and uninstall them, and make Windows get them again from Windows Update, restart your system.

While I appreciate the assistance, I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for. What kind of option am I trying to find here?

It seems like My Documents has been almost totally erased. however, if I go to C:/users/(user)/documents everything is there. No idea why this happened but at least everything seems recoverable.
