One computer causing network to lag

Recently I've been having some internet issues. There are 3-4 computers connected to my network at a time and when I turn on my computer, all of the computers experience lag. Wirelessly, we usually get 30 down and 10 up speed. After turning on my computer the speeds drop to around 20 down. Then, when I open up any program that uses an internet connection, it drops to less than 1mb down speed. I have an Apple Airport Extreme and the isp provided modem/router. I tried both and experience the same problems. I also have an asus pce-n13 adapter. I found one way around the problem by having my phone run pdanet. So the connection goes from the router to my phone to my computer. This is the only work around I can find so far. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you got a ton of stuff downloading in the background? Maybe try running a virus scan if there is something nasty using up the connection.
