Should I get a new CPU cooler?

jpgrandi

I did some stress tests to see how high my CPU temperature gets, and it reached a maximum of 68° C after 1 hour.

After 1 hour running P95, the CPU oscillates at about 63°C, sometimes reaching 66°C, with very ocasional peaks of 68°C.

The CPU is a  Intel core i5-3330. Intel says the maximum safe temperature for this CPU is 67°C.

So, is it still safe to stay with the Intel factory cooler or should I get a new, better one?

Your fine. Companies tend to under shoot the safe zone just to play it safe.

Don't use prime 95. It causes issues. Remember that the stress test is absolutely worst case scenario. You will never be under that sort of load in real world programs.

The only time to worry about a new cooler is if you are over clocking or you want it to be quieter. Intel knows what is safe and design the cooler accordingly.

Alright, I'm keeping my Intel cooler then. Thanks a lot!

Actually, it's already overclocked. I'm running it at 3200 MHz

67c is the tcase temp spec which is for the ihs and not core temps. You're fine up to 90c at load for the core.

P95 is an absolute worst case scenario and your temps are fine. No need to upgrade for temps. It might slightly improve your CPUs life if you keep it cooler but don't worry about it. However going for quieter aftermarket cooler is not a bad idea if you care about silence.
