ASRock motherboards?

For my i5-6600K gaming build I'm looking at the ASRock Z170 Pro 4, or Extreme 4. They both seem like a sweet deal with high quality components compared to other manufacturers. 

However, there are tons of negative reviews for both. Is this just online reviewer stupidity or are ASRock boards less than reliable?

 

My other choice is the ASUS Z170-A, which is pretty much the same as the Extreme 4. I know that ASUS motherboards are the bomb, but I don't want to be swayed into paying $50 more for a motherboard unless it's really worth it in terms of features / reliability / support.

 

Thoughts?

I know a guy who says ASRock is good but my impression is if its dead on arrival or dies after 4 months you got a bad board so RMA it then?

So far my Asrock Z170 OC Formula has been fantastic, but the attention to detail that goes into this board versus the rest of the Asrock boards is quite different. 

 

I think the Extreme 4 is still a good buy though, it looks quite nice too.

I have an ASROCK in my brother's build good board for the price. I wouldn't want to do anything fancy on it like overclocking or over voltaging but if you just need a solid board for day to day stuff I would recommend it.

Well, I do intend on overclocking, otherwise I wouldn't be buying a Z170 board or a K series CPU. Nothing crazy, but I do want the option.

It'll do just fine, the VRM looks hefty enough on the Extreme 4. 

 

If the BIOS is also designed similarly to my OC Formula, it'll be really easy to find everything in BIOS as well.

Personally I am using the ASRock Z77 extreme 4, it is a great board and I can get some really nice overclocks on this board (3770k to 5.2GHz with low air temps and 4.9GHz with normal air temps). I don't know how they quality of ASRock boards changed over time but this thing is great IMO.

I have a 790GX Pro in my server currently, which was in my desktop previously, and its still rocking on 4 years later.

I've heard a lot of bad things about asrock, but i havent had any issues myself.

I'm using the Extreme4+, no complaints at all (aside for a little annoyance with the LLC). Being a great experience for me.

I was looking at the ASRock Extreme 7+ and OC Formula but decided against it. Why? I had no choice. I had a gift card somewhere but unfortunately they didn't carry ASRock. So I went with the Asus VIII Hero but it had horrible onboard audio issues. Now I finally settled on the Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 which arrives tomorrow. It was between going Asus again or elsewhere, so I went with Gigabyte.

 

Something I realized as I delved deeper in Mobo shopping; Asus is practically a total ripoff that charges MORE money for LESS features than their competitors. ASRock and Gigabyte both offer much more at the same price point than Asus.

Simple: I don't like red. And that's the high end spectrum, I was refering to the mid-range.
