Built it for a friend with a budget of 1200$ any thoughts or improvements.

You can keep the 980 but I'd definitely get rid of that psu and get either a higher wattage or better quality psu

why? if you are spending over $400 on a card it should be better. a 970 can OC to a 980

and thats not the problem with the PSU. the problem is that its not meant for a higher end rig.

the 390x is less powerful than the 980 

the nano thermal throttles unless it's being water cooled

You can save $70 by getting an OEM Windows license on Kinguin...use that to put towards a better GPU and/or PSU.
