Hey guys,

Last week i built a computer for my mom and dad and the build is almost finished, but the hard drive isn't showing up anymore (in the bios or windows, but on one of the first boots it showed up in the bios)

things i checked:

- all cables are all the way in

- the hdd spins when the computer is on

- i tried both sata cables that came with my mobo, both worked on the ssd, neither worked on the hdd

what should i do??

already tried all of them, the ssd worked, the hdd didn't

Is there a way to test the drive on another system? If not, try resetting the CMOS and try again.

Hey mikat :)

Since you've tried the drive with other cables or ports the issue may be generally caused by two things - the drive itself has a problem or the motherboard/controller has trouble recognizing it.

It is really a good idea to try the drive on a different system and see if it pops up in the BIOS, Device Manager or Disk Management. Connecting the drive externally can eliminate the SATA controller as the potential troublemaker.

If you do get the drive to be recognized I'd run WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests. Here's a link to the tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=aAKxRI

If you can't see it anywhere I'd contact our live support and possibly exchange the drive. Here's a link to that too: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=vpx9ak

Post back if you need more info!

and then i booted my personal rig (hdd connected with sata)

will try in the weekend when i have more time :)

thanks for your help, will contact the support if it still doesn't show up :)
