Ultrabook VS Gaming Laptop for school

Hello all!

So my Dell XPS 12 has been giving me some issues. Not the "software issues that I'm too lazy to fix" type of issues, more like the "the hardware in this laptop is not fast enough to run the programs I want" I could get an Asus UX305 with a Skylake processor, however this isn't going to be any good at playing games. However, it will be quite light and have great battery life.  However, since I want to play games with my friends and I have access to power outlets, along with the fact that Pascal and Polaris will be coming out soon makes it hard to imagine buying yet another Ultrabook. I think I'll get the gaming laptop, but I'd love to hear your opinion.

I would get a gaming laptop like GS60 that is still very easy to carry and has decent battery life.

I would go for the gaming laptop, since you are able to game on the go and have access to power outlets. But I would get a gaming laptop that has a more subtle design if I were you, as I don't want to get too much attention and worse, someone stealing it.

Yeah, I read a few reviews said the battery life was below average, but I'll still consider it.

it's 4+ hours of web browsing, enough for four hours of REALLY boring lectures.

Ah ok then. Thank you. I was looking at a few 15.6 inch laptops, but this might be a better option. Plus it stays cool.

I think the GS60 looks the best out of all of those.

i REALLY suggest going 15 inch, any bigger and they're a surfboard in your backpack, and any smaller the screen becomes tiny.

beyond that, get something with mid-tier specs, so its still powerful, but wont suck its battery dry in 10 seconds once it starts rendering.

Yeah, I'm lucky because theft at my school happens, maybe once every other year. Gigabyte has some more subtle designs.

Cooling seems to be less of the issue now. I don't mind the small screen, I have a Dell XPS 12 anyway. Which laptop do you recommend?

well, i really like samsung, but they dont seem to be around anymore in the laptop buisiness (i cri everitim)

off the top of my head MSI has some nice mid tier offerings that arent oversized, and have decent batteries.

in the end you're gonna have to look at what makes sense for your area since MSI costs twice as much in belgium than it does in the states :P

If you want subtle, take a look at the Clevo P65xRx series. They have different names in different parts of the world. Sager NP865x, Eurocom Sky MX5, Digital Storm Triton, XMG P506, etc etc.

well, so does everyone. certainly in the laptop space. acer still refuses to help me with my laptop because i need to contact acer support in my own country (there is no acer support in my own country)

to be honest, i'm gonna follow @exercutor5 here and push for some of the more "excentric" brands like sager, since they really cant afford a black mark on their name right now, so if you have an issue, you'll more than likely get helped.
