So I have the i7 5820k the Asus x-99-a/usb 3.1 EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid, On the asus website it talked about a turbo app you had to press and it would OC you CPU on its own and all that. Guess my question is, is it a program I have to download or would I have to go into the BIOS and find it there? I am a 1st time OC and guess a little afraid to do it manually on my own.

Linus has a video on the subject of "How to overclock your CPU" i really woulnt recommend you use those programs as i found that they crank the Voltage way too much the msi's utilty had my cpu running at 4.2ghz 1.3V wheere as i could get it to 4.4ghz 1.2V so my reccomandation is that you go watch vids online learn how to do it and do it on your own

I would do as @BarisERY said and look up some of Linus's videos on how to overclock.

The auto-overclocking features of motherboards scare me because of voltage.

CPU: i5 6600k OCed to 4.5Ghz @ 1.35v, GPU: R9 390 Nitro, Motherboard: Asus z170-A, CPU Cooler: H100i GTX, RAM: HyperX 2x8 16gb DDR4, PSU: Seasonic x650, Storage: 850 EVO 500gb, WD 1tb blue, Case: H440 White/Black

I just posted this in another topic, but it's relevant.

I've had mine[5930k] stable at 4.6 with 1.31v but I backed it off because I didn't want to risk burnout or degradation. My temps at that point were getting quite high as well, because I'm using an air cooler. Also, saying that my processor is at 4,444 MHz is just really satisfying for some reason. It's at 1.2998v(1.3? :P) now.

Every chip is different though. You shouldn't ever expect a certain overclock on a chip just because someone else has the same model and hit a certain overclock.

you shouldn't use software automatic OC solutions, as they apply much more voltage than necessary( heat and power consumption are higher , and there might be voltage degredation). use the bios and tune it manually.

Also, this. Use your bios man. It might take a bit longer but it's much better for your hardware to do it manually.

Overclocking isn't that complicated, really. Basically, if you don't know what it does then look it up or don't mess with it. You can get pretty decent overclocks just by bumping up your CPU multiplier a couple of points. It doesn't have to be some really involved task that takes hours or days to do properly. Everyone has to start somewhere, after all.
