If your budget is $770 you can build a great PC with feature compability for upgrades.

I suggest building a 'platform' where you only need to upgrade the GPU whenever you feel the need.

I would say get a quad core K processor, just look at the below build:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/p69B8d

There's no GPU, but it's a great system that will last many GPUs, the CPU wont become a bottleneck for years and when it finally does, you can OC to get more play time out of it.

The $700 price point is great.

I do not recommend the 4460 because it's a throw away chip, once it becomes a bottle neck the only option is to outright replace it.

I suggest getting more CPU now, and less GPU now so you only have to replace your GPU later down the line.

I left enough budget in my build to get a 950 or 750ti which will work for now

Your RAM is overkill, and I allready have a ssd lying around, and why the super expensive power supply?

Better safe than sorry, but a 750w PSU will last you forever unless you decide to throw to super AMD cards in Xfire.

16gb is a good number for RAM if you want to run youtube or other background applications while gaming. 8gb is good enough for just gaming. But with 8gb you will experience slow downs, which is something I feel my $700 pc should never do.

Drop the SSD and 8gb of ram and spend more on GPU, Remember, my build has no GPU

No storage, no GPU, 1 stick of 8gb of ram incase you decide you want 16 later. You can use the remainder of the budget to get the best GPU you can, but with this build all you will need to do is replace the GPU in a year or two and the rest of your components will be good to go. You're getting an 1151 Skylake quadcore, overclockable CPU, along with DDR4 memory so it's basically the latest tech you can get right now.

Keep in mind that new AMD and Nvidia GPUs are coming later this year, and they're going to be a bigger change that usual, so all GPUs out right now will become somewhat out of date, and there's a chance for a price drop on them too.

Supports crossfire as an upgrade, and if you get the Rev 1.0 version of this board, you can even go up to a K-CPU and overclock it.

Throw it to me!

On a serious note, though, the i5 4460 might be the baseline Haswell i5, but I know people who have i5 2400s that still keep up with modern day games- Any i5 beyond Sandy Bridge has had rather a long life. While this goes double for the K-CPUs, it still applies to locked chips.
