how do you calculate this stuff? on nvidias website is says 600w or more for the 980ti..

Guess what, for safety reasons. There are always ppl out there who buy 5$ PSU from the local shop or reuse an ancient one and in these cases 600W+ is recommended. Nvidia also states that it cannot consume more than 250W (w/o OC) which is easy math. A modern PSU with sufficient connectors will be surely enough.

You're more than OK.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

No you should come ask us :P

If you want to get a better CPU and a second GPU then you should probably go for a higher wattage PSU. But if you are sticking with 1 GPU then a 550w is way more than enough.

Any CPU you could throw in that board would still be fine with a 980 ti and the 550 G2. Adding that and a SECOND GPU could push it over.

A good future upgrade if you ever feel you need it is the EVGA 750w B2, constantly found for $50-$65.

With one GPU it isn't necessary though.
