Worth Buying 9600gt

Is it worth buying a used bfg 9600gt from craigslist for $25 to upgrade an old emachines pc.Or should I buy something like a cheap hd 5450.

If it's for only $25 then I guess that's ok. Otherwise i wouldn't bother buying an old GPU (unless it's massively vintage).

I would only keep an old GPU because of sentimental value as well / could be vintage in future.

Ive got one (among many others, its an xfx @740/1000mhz) and its great, get the 1gb version if you can if you cant a 512 should be good for most games upto 1366x768 or even 1680x1050. ive benchmarked it for a while though not complete.

skyrim-high preset @1680x1050 it plays fine (cant remember exactly but id guess 40+ fps)

i recorded MOH warfighter @30fps with fraps so its +30 on my own custom preset which is between medium-high (high looks no better but does have a performance hit and i would reccomend these settings...custom, medium, high, medium, high, medium, medium, 4xmsaa, low, off, 4x af, HBAO, on.)

world of tanks-medium 1360x768-35.4fps
all on my sig rig (phenom x4 @stock though)

eurotruck simulator 2 on medium preset on pentium core duo e5200@3.3ghz (4gb of ram) runs nice and smooth, dont know fps but its smooth (if a bit aliased for my liking but thats the game)

they still have life in them and i would say is equal to a 6670 maybe even a 7750 (if overclocked)
but make sure you have a decent power supply, these demand 100w on thier own so id say a 450w-550w with a pcie.
a core 2 duo will help if the current cpu is lacking, obviously it depends if the game uses 2 cores, 2 cores evenly, 4 cores, 4 cores evenly...

Buy it I am using one for BF3 on 1080p all low and I get 30 fps which for a 25$ is preety much all you can wish for.
