I'm looking to get some decent video editing software as I'd like to get more serious about content creation. Currently I'm using MovieMaker and it's agonizingly painful due to MovieMaker being buggy, having crap export quality even with high bitrate, and having a really limited feature set... and most of all since it doesn't have a proper timeline.

So I don't need anything crazy professional, as it's mostly just gaming videos. Many years ago I used Final Cut Express to edit some videos and something like that would be perfect (though I don't use OSX anymore). I'm wondering if Adobe Premiere Elements would do, or if I would need to invest in something more expensive like Premiere Pro or Vegas Edit? Basically something that can do stuff like advanced colour correction, cropping/panning/rotating video clips, picture-in-picture, add multiple layers of text on screen, have pretty good control over the audio etc. I tried looking on the product pages on Adobe and Sony's website but they give a very broad overview and it doesn't really tell me if they have the features I need in the cheaper softwares.

Would be awesome if it supports CUDA too for accelerated video rendering, possibly OpenCL or whatever in case I switch to AMD in the future :P

Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere is what I would recommend. I think one of them supports OpenCL and the other supports CUDA.

Premiere Elements is nice.. There's some Freeware called Hitman Pro, you can always give that a shot. I haven't messed with it , but I've heard it has some nice effects... Plus its free for the most part from what I understand.

As far as I know, Hitman Pro is an anti malware software ;)

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm downloading it to give it a try.

The business model seems a bit fucky though. The software is free (presumably no watermarks and stuff) but they sell certain features and stuff for like $10+ each. It may do the job for now though.
