$1000 Build Opinions

Magikarpdrowned

I was bored, and decided that I would build my dream $1000 PC for gaming and photo/video editing. Any suggestions on how to improve it?

Solid build. I would go for a power supply with a lesser wattage.

There's actually a funny story behind that. The 750w as a little cheaper than all of the 600w and 550w PSu that I could find from reputable brands.

I would make sure to account if the software you use to edit video, etc. uses cuda or not.

If it does, you should definitely consider nvidia. I also don't think the 390x is worth the premium over the 390.

Would the 390 keep up with Hitfilm3 express?

I'd spend less on the gpu and get a 390 as the 390X doesn't add that much for the money. Might want 16GB RAM for video editing but you can always see how it goes and add it later. I'd also look into getting an ssd.

If you make a post contradicting mine that doesn't directly address my claims, or cites 'facts' without evidence, I'm probably not going to bother responding to it, because you probably didn't bother reading my post properly, and because life is too short. It doesn't mean I don't have an answer for you. It means I'm not dignifying you with a response.

There's little to no difference between it and the 390x.

+1

Video rendering is really CPU-intensive. Might want to go for a 5820k+X99 board instead, taking in account this is all purely theoretical.

Primary Build: i7-4790 · 16GB Hynix DDR3-1600 · Sapphire Tri-X R9 390x · NZXT S340 · Win10 Pro · Seagate Barracuda 1TB T_T

I have no idea, but the 390x is barely any better than the 390. I actually have identical benchmark results to the best firestrike scores with a 390x, using a 390.

The motherboard is not so good in terms of features, I'd advise you to get an ASUS Z170-K, or ASUS Z170-P.

Also the build can be made a little more complete if you can up your budget a little bit.

Nothing to see here ;)

This look good? I updated the motherboard, but I don't know if I should leap for an i7. The i5 should be OC-able up to 4.4GHz, right?

If you go for a devil's canyon CPU, you'll be able to get an AIO which can help out a bunch with overclocking, an air cooler does help but limits your OC abilities. + its a good gaming cpu. added an SSD, if you need 16gb then go for it, but everything else is the same.
