What is Overclock for CPU?

Hello all,

I have been reading a lot about overclocking but im not clear about how to do overclock for cpu. If u guys explain it to me it would be a great help. Overclocking cpu is same for all cpu or it differ for different cpu? Can all cpu be overclocked? What is it mean by 'Overclocked Unlocked' or 'Factory Overclocked'?

Overclocking is the act of increasing the frequency of a component, not just CPUs. Overclocking is similar in principle but must be tailored to specific architectures, and certain things must be considered for each architecture like voltage limits and temperature limits. On AMD CPUs, their modern ones starting with Bulldozer can all be overclocked utilizing the multiplier feature, but Intel's CPUs usually must have the K on the end to enable multiplier-based overclocking. Factory overclocking is where a manufacturer will increase the frequency of a component past the original specifications in order to produce a better performing product, potentially at the cost of noise and power draw.

Overclocking is to increase the power of your CPU.

 

An unlocked CPU means it has an unlocked multiplier which makes it very easy to overclock.

 

It is not the same for all cpu's because some are not unlocked

 

You have to go to the BIOS to overclock.

There is no one guide fits all to overclocking. You'll need to look up a guide for your specific motherboard and your specific CPU
