Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to the PC building world and was wondering if you guys could help me out with building a rig. I have around $2500 CAD to spend... Really only want to spend $2000 though in total when it comes to components and peripherals. I'm set on a GTX 980 as it'll most likely give me a min of 60fps in 1080p for most games and also will handle all of my rendering stuff when it comes to AutoCAD Revit and Photoshop. If you could help me out with the rest that would be really great! Thanks in advance.

Are you doing the CAD work professionally? As you may want a workstation GPU in that case. Otherwise the Fury is generally a better choice than the 980, as you'll save a ton of money should you ever get an adaptive sync display.

The CAD work i'm doing is going to be for university, so just some student stuff.

Actually, maybe a 390, still some room left in the budget, you could also get a Xeon 1231v3 and put the saved money towards a 4k display for productivity, buying a 980 is a bit of a waste for 1080p, you'd be better off one tier down, but you should really upgrade your display so you can fit way more on it.

It's $600 CAD for a 4k IPS free-sync display, only 27" though, dunno korean monitor availability in canada

Holy balls, okay thanks I owe you one! Just curious in the difference between the 390 and 980?

the 390 is on the 970 tier, but it's overall faster than the 970

Here's another suggestion, more geared towards gaming. The E3-1241 v3 is basically an i7-4790 without an iGPU. I went with it because it's currently ten bucks cheaper than the E3-1231 v3.

It's a waste to buy a 980ti for a 1080p display, in 6 short months you'd get more performance for the same amount of cash, you'd be better off with a 4k display and like a 390, you're better off playing 1080p on a 4k display, and you still get free-sync.

I think I'll go with the 390 build, just as it's a cheaper price. However I will opt for a 1080p display instead of a 4K one.

Well invest in the 4k display if you can, you have like way more workspace for projects it's it's more pixels than 2 1440p displays, otherwise at least go 1440p, it has a good amount more vertical pixels for extra space compared to 1080p
