On low end cards like the GT 730 it won't make much of a difference, but the x1 interface will bottleneck most better cards.

Crossfire needs x4 in order to work.

Any AMD cards require X4 Minimum to run. Any Nvidia cards require X8 to run

No. AMD cards require x4 for Crossfire. NVIDIA requires x8 for SLI.

 

Running them independently doesn't matter. My 660 Ti is running off an PCIe 2.0 x4 slot.
