Windows 10 Reset

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

Also, if you use Windows Media Creation tool in the future, you are good to go.

What I mean, is say you want you to re-install. Use Windows Media Creation tool to setup a disk or flash drive, boot from it, and run the setup to do a clean install. At some point it will ask you for the product key. You'll have the option to skip it. Do so, when Windows 10 will be fully setup and on your desktop, do your Windows updates. Once the Windows updates are done, restart your system, and you'll notice that Windows 10 will be activated.

How come? When you upgrade to Windows 10, it generates an ID from your hardware configurations that is specific to you, and uses that as your product key which is stored on Microsoft servers. As long as you don't change your hardware too much (motherboard and CPU), you should be good in the future when the free upgrade offer ends.

Hi,

I have a laptop which came with windows 8.1 preinstalled, and I upgraded to windows 10 6 months ago. I had to reset my laptop due to some problems, but when i reset it, it went back to windows 8.1. Now windows 10 is free so i upgraded again, but after july 29 2016 windows 10 wont be free.

So my question is, is there any way to change the files of "Recovery" drive from windows 8.1 to windows 10?

Hi!

Your laptop most likely has a designated partition dedicated to windows 8.1 recovery files.

If you recover from the boot up screen, it will use that partition.

From what I know, in windows 10, if you go to Settings->Update and Security->Reset, you have the option to recover to windows 10.

You can now use win 7, 8, and 8.1 keys to activate 10 which should alleviate the issue. I would just download the ISO and use Rufus to make your USB installer.
