So I have this Sandisk Plus 240Gb.

I just installed windows 8.1 pro in it, and the boot time are pretty fast (faster than my HDD at least).

I also saw around 100MB transfer speed (when I pasted the files).

The problem is, when I open the task manager, it takes a second (maybe less) to close.

The window will become plain white, then it'll close. It's not that long but definitely noticeable.

I also saw some "lag"in the network and sharing center especially when the PC is still loading the network connection or something.

Is this normal ?

Is there a possibility that there was a problem with the installation, or the SSD itself has problems ?

Kindly clarify stuff for me, I'm new to this SSD business.

You are copying from ssd to a ssd or sdd to hhd.

What does crystaldiskinfo say in smart status, judging from your transfer speeds and other stuff you mentioned i'm guessing the ssd is degraded heavily

I was copying from my old HDD to my SSD.

The thing is, this SSD is new. I just bought it last week, and intalled windows yesterday, though I had a few problems with the product key when installing the first time, so I had to install windows a couple more times.

Well your ssd is fine ... you hhd cant read as fast as SDD .. 100mbs sounds pretty good.

Here's what crystaldiskinfo says.

I never used this tool before, so if there's something I need to do, kindly tell me.

Untitled.thumb.png.3d6b619cb68e56cdb425f

I just checked, the "lag" is now shortened, but is still there.

As soon as my internet connection is fine, the Network and Sharing Center responds fine.

You're using the wrong software for what you need. Use CrystalDiskMark instead.

Here is a shot of my C: drive, a 256gb Crucial MX100 for comparison. Your numbers should be the same or better for your drive.

Something else to consider. If your drive is full or nearly full it affects performance. Also, try running the "trim" command on the drive and make sure its not having to trim as its going. Also moving data from a HDD to a SDD will result in slower speeds.

My Rig: 2x Xeon x5690 @ 3.45Ghz 24GB DDR3 EEC RAM Asus STRIX GeForce GTX 970 SuperMicro X8DT3 Windows Server 2008 R2

Here's a little TL;DR of what you need to know about the GTX 970 and R9 390

R9 390 works better in VRAM-bound scenarios and compute bound scenarios and is best paired with higher end processors

GTX 970 works better in CPU-bound scenarios and tessellation bound scenarios and is best paired with lower end processors

The drive is around halfway full. 125 free of 223Gb.

I've got no problems with copying.

My issue is the "lag" I noticed when closing the task manager and opening the Network and Sharing Center.

Ok. Run disk defragger and use the trim command on the SSD and see if that helps at all.

The trim command looks like it helped a little with speed but if you didn't notice a large increase in speed then you got me stumped. Sounds like a SOFTWARE ISSUE!

It doesn't look like you have a problem at all. It's in the same ballpark as my drive which I feel is running just fine. BTW, NEVER ever defrag a ssd! Ddave gave you bad advice there. You'll kill the drive if you keep that up.

Only if there actual file corruption due windows install which i doubt, can happen on any system btw.

Hmm . . .

Will reinstalling windows have any negative effect ?

I don't really have any files on the drive so I'm free to do a clean install, just to remove the chance that it's an issue with the installation.

Don't do it unless can justify it, the more you write on a ssd the more it will eat away lifetime, thats why you wanna avoid benchmarking all day on ssd also, your not gonna get better results anyway and even so for what, the only use it has is to compare to other similar ssd's to see if ssd is underperforming.

run command prompt in admin mode and type sfc /scannow it should scan all system files for corruption if there is unrepairable damage then you need clean install, you always need a new iso aka install source since the one you used then would be corrupt if you get that result, anyway i doubt it.

Oh. Alright. I'll try that then.

Thank you very much for your help. :D
