Have you tried right clicking on the drive that contains that folder, going to properties, then disk cleanup and selecting remove previous version of windows? I found even after this, and manual deletion sometimes some old drivers are kept / used from the windows.old folder.

CCleaner removed it for me. It's in the checkboxes.

Search Windows for "Disk Clean-up" and select to Clean Up System Files.

Then check the box that says something about old Windows installations.

Hasn't the size of the folder gone down?

Sometimes it takes a few tries before the folder itself disappears, but most of the content should have been deleted.

Well, i live just south of you, so the language is not really a barrier.

Hmm, I can see that the old Windows installation is only 409mb. Is there any other large folder showing in Disk Clean-up (exept for the Recycling Bin)?

You could also try restarting the computer. I know that is pretty much the most cliché answer to give, but maybe it'll help.

Aren't you an admin on your own computer?

If you are an admin you should be able to delete it through the disk clean-up utility or CCleaner.

You would be in the same situation as the rest of us.

What is the actual size of the Windows.old folder?

it says "you need permission of trusted installer to delete this"
