I don't see prices dropping at all, maybe 3+ months after the 700 release. You see, Titan is $1000 and performs similar and a bit worse than a 690, but two Titans are greater than 2x690s and of course the 680 is a bit behind.

If anything, there needs to be a Titan price drop as it is worth around $700-$800 because of its performance, but again, I doubt prices will drop for Titan even after the 700 release because it isn't in any series, it isn't part of 600 series and it isn't part of the 700 series, so it can be whatever price Nvidia wants it.

the uber high end cards (GTX 295,GTX 590,HD 5970,HD 6990,Titan) don't drop in price until they go out of stock,i.e until they're last gen and only on ebay/craigslist.

680 might see a price drop half a year after GTX 780 is released (just guessing based on when the 580 prices dropped)

Titan wouldn't drop in price, but not for the reasons you listed, simply due to the fact that it costs them a hefty price to make.

remember that Titan is the same GPU used in a $7700 workstation card,K20X,gimped as it may be it still costs them significantly more than any Geforce card to make due to the bad yields.and since fewer people buy Titan they rely on the high price of it to make the money back.

That's another good thing to consider, great point, didn't think of it.

This generation is starting off oddly compared to recent ones. AMD doesn't plan on releasing new cards in the very near future, and Nvidia put up its flagship single-GPU card at a grand. I'll be interested to see how the 700 series plays out. I assume there's going to be a "crippled" version of the GK110 (one less SMX cluster, one less memory controller). I can see GK104 cards re-branded as 700 series with GPU Boost 2.0 and monitor overclocking build in the drivers. What I'm most interested in seeing is if/when they make a new GPU to fill the gap between the GK104 and GK110, and exactly how it will perform compared to both.

I am a big nvidia fan, but I can't help but believe that the Titan is a little overpriced. It makes sense though. If AMD isn't going to budge for a couple quarters, it would be stupid to price outside of GTX 600 series / HD 7000 standards.

To answer your question: I think both the red guys and the green guys are kind of forcing this generation of graphics to go on a bit longer than originally planned, and I wouldn't expect any price drops out of the norm for a few quarters.
